Research Software Notice

1. Posture

takhiOS and the UIL Platform are an independent, non-commercial research project built by one individual with AI assistance; they are free, experimental software given to the community to test at their own risk, with no warranty and no support obligation.

2. Independent research project

This is a personal research effort by an individual based in Norway. There is no company, no legal entity, no partnership and no organisation behind it. “UIL Labs” is a project name used by the author; it is not a registered business or a separate legal person. Income to date comes from donations only. A paid service is at most a future idea and is not currently offered.

The software is developed with AI assistance. The author reviews and is responsible for what is released, but AI assistance does not make the result more reliable, more secure or more complete than an experimental personal project should be assumed to be.

3. Experimental software

Everything here is experimental. It may contain bugs, unfinished parts, wrong assumptions and untested paths. It may change without notice, break between releases, lose compatibility, or be discontinued entirely. Features described anywhere are intentions, not commitments.

4. Provided as-is, no warranty

The software and services are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. You use them entirely at your own risk. See 02-LIMITATION-OF-LIABILITY.md for the full warranty disclaimer and liability terms.

5. No support commitment

There is no support contract, no service desk, no response time and no obligation to fix anything. Bug reports and questions are welcome but may go unanswered, and any help you get is voluntary and given without commitment.

6. Testing is at your own risk

This software is given to the community so that it can be tested. Testing includes the possibility of failure. Before you install, boot, repartition, restore, run a virtual machine or otherwise use it, assume that something can go wrong and that recovery is your responsibility.

7. No fitness for any purpose

Do not use this software where a failure can cause harm or serious loss. In particular it is not designed, tested or certified for:

  • production or business-critical systems;
  • medical devices, diagnosis or patient care;
  • safety-critical systems, vehicles, industrial control or life-support;
  • any situation where loss of data cannot be tolerated or where third-party safety depends on it.

8. Locker is not a backup strategy

UIL Locker is an experimental tool. It is not a substitute for a real backup strategy. A backup strategy means multiple copies, on multiple media or locations, tested by restoring them, and kept independently of the machine or service that produced the originals. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

9. Third-party and GPL components

takhiOS includes Arch Linux components and other third-party software under their own licences. Components licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) keep all of their GPL rights. Nothing in this project’s notices or licences adds restrictions to, or takes rights away from, those GPL components. See 07-THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.
